Château de la Sône stands on a rocky spur above the Isère in the village of La Sône. Heritage accounts describe an earlier fortified presence on the site, followed by a medieval stronghold mentioned in 1210 and enlarged during the first half of the fourteenth century as the Dauphiné passed through a period of political change.
The château suffered damage during the French Wars of Religion in the sixteenth century, then entered a long period of repair and embellishment after the seigneury of La Sône was acquired by Félicien de Boffin in the early seventeenth century. The Boffin family shaped much of the château and park over the following generations, while later owners connected the estate with the local silk-manufacturing history of La Sône.
Today the château is known for its riverside position, medieval tower, later residential wings, chapel decoration, and landscaped park. The protected ensemble includes the château, chapel, and park above the Isère.
The protected ensemble includes façades and roofs, a chapel with seventeenth-century painted decoration, and a park shaped by later landscaping. Heritage descriptions note a fourteenth-century tower with machicolations, a residential range on a terrace, and mature parkland above the Isère.
